Adedeji Adeleke, father of Nigerian music superstar Davido, has explained in detail how his family handled the paternity claims involving a 12-year-old girl, Anuoluwapo, who is alleged to be the singer’s daughter.

The controversy resurfaced in mid-January after the child shared an emotional post on Instagram on January 15, claiming she had suffered bullying and ridicule over assertions that Davido whose real name is David Adeleke is her biological father. She said the situation had taken a toll on her mental health and called for a DNA test to establish the truth.

Speaking to journalists, Dr. Adeleke disclosed that the family coordinated several DNA tests to conclusively resolve the matter. According to him, the situation became more complicated after social media personality Kemi Olunloyo suggested that the child might belong to B-Red, Davido’s cousin, whose name also includes “David Adeleke.”

To eliminate any doubt, Dr. Adeleke said the family agreed to conduct multiple independent tests.

“When the child’s aunt came to us, I told her to choose any clinic of her choice,” he explained. “I assured her that once she came to Lagos with the child, we would carry out the test at her preferred clinic. In addition to that, I arranged for another clinic in Lekki so that David and the child would undergo two additional tests. I also arranged two separate tests for my nephew, Bayo.”

He added that four DNA tests were conducted in one day, which eventually brought the total number to five, three involving Davido and two involving B-Red.

Dr. Adeleke also revealed that the family first became aware of the child in 2014, after he received a package from Ibadan via DHL. The package reportedly contained photographs of the child, pictures of Davido with the girl, her birth certificate, and a letter from the child’s grandmother.

“What immediately caught my attention was the birth certificate,” he said. “The father’s name was written as Adeleke David, and the mother’s name was also Adeleke Ayoomide. I questioned how the mother could bear the Adeleke surname.”

The letter from the grandmother detailed how her daughter allegedly became pregnant after meeting Davido during a visit to Ibadan for a music show. She stated that her daughter gave birth to a baby girl on November 19 and insisted that Davido was responsible for the pregnancy.

Dr. Adeleke said he contacted the grandmother immediately, assured her that the child would be welcomed into the family if confirmed to be his granddaughter, and arranged for DNA testing at a hospital in Lekki where he regularly receives medical care.

According to him, saliva samples were collected from all parties and sent to South Africa for analysis.

“When the results were ready, both the grandmother and the mother of the child were present,” he said. “We signed that the results would be released to us together, and when they came out, we opened them jointly.”

The Adeleke family maintains that the multiple tests were conducted to ensure transparency, fairness, and closure for everyone involved, especially the child at the centre of the controversy.
