The Chairman of the Osun State Water Corporation, Hon. Samuel Olayinka Oyedotun, has called on former Osun State Governor, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, to stop allegedly invoking the name of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to create political tension and hardship in the state.
Oyedotun, popularly known as Sam Oyus, made the call shortly after a press conference addressed by the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, on Monday.
Speaking with journalists, Oyedotun described the alleged actions of the former governor as uncivilised, criminal, and unbecoming of a former leader, accusing him of taking pleasure in measures that deny grassroots residents their legitimate means of livelihood.
He alleged that Oyetola influenced events through the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), to ensure that APC-backed “Yes/No” chairmen and councillors failed to comply with valid court judgments delivered by courts ranging from the Federal High Court to the Supreme Court.
Oyedotun further claimed that the Attorney General of the Federation and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Olayemi Cardoso, acted in bad faith by allegedly relying on what he described as misleading and unverified memos from Oyetola, whom he referred to as the President’s cousin. He alleged that the memos were aimed at diverting local government funds meant for grassroots administration in Osun State.
He also criticised the United Bank for Africa (UBA), accusing the bank of allegedly aiding illegal actions, including the seizure of funds and the opening of accounts for individuals without lawful authority to receive government funds. Oyedotun urged the bank’s management to uphold professionalism and avoid actions that could damage its reputation as an international financial institution.
The Osun Water Corporation chairman appealed to well-meaning Nigerians and corporate organisations to prevail on President Tinubu to intervene urgently. He warned that the alleged actions of Oyetola, carried out in the President’s name, could tarnish the President’s image among world leaders.
Oyedotun called on President Tinubu to immediately reverse what he described as illegal and unjust actions allegedly being carried out by the former governor and his associates, and to ensure that all seized funds are returned to constitutionally recognised authorities rather than impostors claiming federal backing.
He added that the continued seizure of the funds since February 2025 has severely affected the lives and livelihoods of innocent residents of Osun State.
