Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Tiwa Savage, has shared a heartfelt glimpse into her approach to motherhood, revealing that her greatest goal is to raise her son, Jamil Balogun, to be a kind, respectful and grounded man.
Speaking in a recent interview with popular content creator Eniola Olanrewaju, also known as Korty EO, the award-winning singer said she understands that her 10-year-old son will make mistakes as he grows, but kindness remains the value she prioritises above all else.
According to the Somebody’s Son crooner, perfection is not her expectation. Instead, she wants Jamil to grow up with a good heart. “It’s very important for me to make sure he’s a good man. He’s going to make mistakes, he’s not perfect. But at his core, I want him to be kind,” she said.
Savage, who shares Jamil with her ex-husband, Tunji ‘Tee Billz’ Balogun, also revealed that she regularly teaches her son the importance of respecting women. She noted that she often reminds him to treat every woman with dignity and care.
“I always tell him, ‘your mum suffered o, make sure you treat any girl like a queen,’” she said, adding that the message is one she constantly reinforces at home.
During the conversation, Jamil also spoke about his dreams for the future, revealing that he now hopes to become a professional footballer. He explained that his ambition has evolved over the years, moving away from his childhood desire to become a gamer.
“When I was four, I wanted to be a gamer. Now, I want to be a footballer,” he said.
The young boy also shared a light-hearted moment when asked about his mother’s music. While admitting that he doesn’t intentionally listen to her songs, he joked that he often hears them when she plays them “in the shower.” He added that his personal music preferences lean more towards global icons like Michael Jackson and Kendrick Lamar.
The interview offered fans a rare and touching look at Tiwa Savage beyond the stage, highlighting her dedication to raising her son with strong values despite the demands of fame.
