Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has addressed the swirling controversies around her personal life by voluntarily undergoing a drug test, a step she revealed in an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday.

The actress described the past few months as one of the most difficult periods of her life, marked by intense emotional struggles and relentless public scrutiny. According to her, the experience nearly overwhelmed her and forced deep self-reflection.

“The past few months have been incredibly heavy,” Daniels wrote. “It felt like one of those seasons that sits on your chest and demands answers about what comes next. Everything I thought I knew seemed to be slipping away.”

Despite the emotional toll, she said she survived the period because of the love and support she received from her family, friends and well-wishers.
“But I didn’t drown,” she added. “I was carried by overwhelming love, patience and understanding. For that, I am forever grateful.”

Daniels explained that her decision to undergo a drug test was driven by a sense of responsibility to those who stood by her and to people who look up to her. She stressed that integrity, accountability and peace of mind guided her choice.

The actress said persistent rumours branding her a drug addict were deeply hurtful and unfounded, prompting her to take action to clear her name.

“One thing echoed loudly across the media: ‘Regina is a drug addict,’” she wrote. “I paused, looked at myself repeatedly and searched for this so-called addict. That’s when I realised people often project their fears and insecurities onto others. But projection is not reality, and noise is not truth.”

She noted that the decision was not merely about defending herself, but about reclaiming her narrative and maintaining peace of mind.

“We all face a choice,” she said. “Do you allow others to define you, or do you create your own story? I choose to create mine every single time.”

Daniels described the phase as a journey of self-discovery and growth, expressing gratitude to God for strength and resilience.

“This chapter of my life is about becoming more intentional,” she wrote. “I thank God endlessly for His grace. I’m still standing, still growing, and just getting started.”

Her announcement comes amid intense public attention on her troubled marriage to billionaire businessman and senator, Ned Nwoko, which has reportedly broken down into a bitter estrangement.

In recent months, both parties have exchanged serious allegations. Daniels had accused Nwoko of domestic abuse and attempting to force her into rehabilitation, alleging that members of her family were detained to pressure her. Nwoko has denied the abuse claims, instead alleging that Daniels has struggled with substance use and that he arranged therapy after observing what he described as concerning behaviour.

The senator’s camp has also claimed to possess medical documents and toxicology reports allegedly showing positive drug and alcohol test results, assertions that continue to fuel public debate.

Despite the controversy, Daniels maintains that she is focused on healing, growth and moving forward.
“And yes,” she concluded, “we move.”
