The Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Professor Ngozi Odu, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), further reshaping the state’s political landscape.

Odu’s move comes weeks after Governor Siminalayi Fubara and a majority of Rivers State lawmakers at both state and federal levels also dumped the PDP for the ruling party.

The deputy governor completed her APC registration on Sunday at Akabuka, Ward 8, Unit 11, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. Following the exercise, she embarked on a tour of the six zones within the LGA to mobilise residents and create awareness about the ongoing APC electronic registration process.

According to a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday by the Head of the Press Unit in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Owupele Benebo, Odu addressed party stakeholders shortly after registering, explaining that the e-registration drive followed Governor Fubara’s declaration to join the APC.
She urged residents to show their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Fubara by registering en masse with the party.

“This move is aimed at strengthening the support base of President Tinubu and Governor Fubara,” Odu said, noting that several zonal meetings had already been held to drive the process.

Describing her tour across Egi, Omoku, Osomini, Igburu, Egbema and Ndoni communities, the deputy governor said she was encouraged by the turnout and enthusiasm of residents.

“Everywhere we went, people came out in large numbers. They told us clearly that wherever I go, they will follow, and wherever Governor Fubara and President Tinubu go, they will also go,” she said.

Odu described the development as a major boost for the APC in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, saying it reflected growing grassroots support for the party’s leadership.

The statement added that the tour also witnessed the defection of hundreds of Labour Party members in Ndoni, who openly declared their decision to join the APC, further strengthening the party’s presence in the area.
