Residents of the Federal Capital Territory will face temporary movement restrictions this weekend as authorities tighten security ahead of the area council elections scheduled for Saturday.

The directive was issued by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who announced that movement within Abuja will be restricted from 8:00 p.m. on Friday until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

According to officials, the measure is aimed at ensuring adequate security and the smooth conduct of the elections across the territory. The decision received the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

In addition to the restriction, Friday has been declared a work-free day to enable residents prepare for and participate in the polls.

Security agencies have been deployed to strategic locations across the city to enforce compliance. Authorities clarified that only accredited electoral officials, security personnel, and eligible voters will be allowed movement during the restricted period.

Residents have been urged to cooperate with security operatives and adhere strictly to the guidelines to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
