The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said the ruling party is ready to welcome former Kano State governor and ex-presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, should he decide to defect.
Yilwatda made this known against the backdrop of recent political realignments in Kano State, which have sparked widespread speculation and reactions, including comments from Kwankwaso himself.
Recall that Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, recently dumped the NNPP for the APC, moving alongside several members of the State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV on Sunday, the APC chairman clarified that while the party is not currently in formal talks with Kwankwaso, he would be warmly received if he chose to join.
“Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to come into the APC. If he decides to join us, he is most welcome. At the moment, however, we are not in any negotiation with him,” Yilwatda said.
Beyond party politics, Yilwatda also defended President Bola Tinubu’s frequent foreign trips, describing them as strategic and beneficial to Nigeria.
According to him, Tinubu’s wealth of experience, global exposure and international connections allow him to achieve in days what might take others years to accomplish.
“Because of his experience, exposure and connections, what he can put together in one day may take most of us several years to achieve,” he explained.
Yilwatda added that the President’s travels should be seen as sacrifices made in the national interest, stressing that such trips are aimed at attracting foreign investment, strengthening security cooperation and negotiating key bilateral agreements.
“For him to make these sacrifices travelling, attracting investments, addressing security issues and negotiating bilateral agreements should that be taken for granted?” he asked.
