The Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board has appealed to the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to reconsider and increase the number of Hajj slots allocated to the state for the 2026 pilgrimage.
The Director of Educational Enlightenment of the board, Malam Hashimu Sadiq, made the appeal during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Bauchi.
Sadiq stated that the 2,600 slots currently assigned to the state may not be adequate to meet the rising number of intending pilgrims.
He explained that Bauchi fully utilised all 2,516 slots granted for the 2025 Hajj, reflecting strong interest and participation among residents.
According to him, even more people have signified their intention to perform the 2026 pilgrimage, prompting the request for additional allocation from the Saudi authorities.
The director further disclosed that the board had finalised key welfare and logistical preparations for intending pilgrims, including arrangements for medical care and accommodation.
“Five houses have been secured close to the Holy Mosque to ensure easier access and comfort for pilgrims from the state,” he said.
Sadiq added that visa processing is progressing smoothly, with only immunisation left before the completion of final departure formalities.
He urged intending pilgrims to remain patient and cooperative, assuring them of the board’s commitment to safeguarding their welfare and ensuring a spiritually rewarding experience in the Holy Land.
It was earlier reported on February 6 that the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah fixed March 20, 2026, as the deadline for visa processing.
The 2026 Hajj is scheduled to hold between May and June 2026.
