The All Progressives Congress (APC) has chosen Ife-born former lawmaker, Hon. Tunde Lekan Olatunji, as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Oyebamiji, ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Olatunji, who once served as Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, represented Ife-North State Constituency during his time in office. His nomination is widely seen as a calculated move by the party to solidify its base in the Ife axis while strengthening grassroots support across the state.

Between 2019 and 2021, Olatunji was actively involved in legislative duties, playing key roles in lawmaking and party coordination within the Assembly. Party members describe him as loyal and deeply rooted in the APC structure.

Outside politics, Olatunji gained recognition for his community-focused project, “Tunde Goes To School,” a volunteer initiative where he personally taught pupils in public schools across Ife-North Local Government Area. The programme earned him praise from residents and education stakeholders for encouraging learning and mentoring young students.

Sources within the party say Olatunji has remained engaged in consultations and stakeholder meetings as preparations intensify for the 2026 election season.

It is unclear if he is a placeholder or the substantive running mate.
