Plenary of the house of representatives on Tuesday turned rowdy as lawmakers kicked over a motion seeking to rescind the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment bill.

The motion means that the bill passed on December 23, 2025 will now be reconsidered by the House.

During plenary, Francis Waive, chairman of the house of representatives committee on rules and business, moved a motion for the house to reverse its decision on the bill.

When Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, put the motion to a voice vote, the “nays” were louder than the “ayes”, but he ruled that the nays had it.

The ruling triggered protests from lawmakers, who began hollering in objection. Abbas subsequently called for an executive session, but the proposal was also rejected.

Despite the resistance, the speaker forced the house into an executive session which is currently ongoing.

InsightMedia recalled that the Green Chambers had earlier passed mandatory electronic transmission of results and 360 days notice of elections.

The above clauses have become national topics as the Senate refused them initially and later amended the clause of transmission to provide for manual transmission of results.
