Years after leaving the office, former Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr John Taiwo Adekolawole has apologized to former Registrar of the institution, Dr Alhassan Oladele Ogunleye over allegations of defamation of characters against him.
The apology was contained in letter sighted by our Correspondent in Osogbo.
InsightMedia recalled that Adekolawole and Ogunleye were at loggerheads during their tenure. The crisis escalated to the arrest of the former Registrar over trumped up allegations of gun-running and attempted murder, all levelled against him by Adekolawole.
According to the letter, Adekolawole admitted that all the allegations and statements by him are false.
The letter read, “I hereby write this letter of unreserved apology to you, in respect of an unverified statement which I later found to be untrue and highly malicious and defaratory against your person which statement was made in my capacity as Rector, the Federal Polytechnic Ede, as contained in the minutes of duly constituted Governing Council meeting of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, held on the 5th and 6th August 2019.
At the said meeting, I informed the Council without verification of what became my knowledge as Rector consequent to your unlawful arrest and detention by the Police that:
(a). Builder Patrick Hussaini bought a pump action gun, which was likely given to you, (Dr Ogunleye Oladele Alhassan), to carry out assassination bid against me, and two other officers of the Polytechnic.
b). you (Dr. Ogunleye Oladele Alhassan) took my name to some herbalists in Kotonkarfe, Kogi state, with the intention to eliminate me through diabolical means, which the herbalists rejected.
“I also regret the malicious and disparaging treatment I deliberately subjected you to, throughout my tenure as Rector, the Federal Polytechnic Ede. The defamatory statements against your person, disparaging actions, and the attendant aspersions against your hard earned reputation, status and perception in the public domain flippantly made consequent to privileged information without my verification is deeply regretted.
“Similarly, I profusely apologise and intensely regret my spurious claim that you wanted to have sexual elationship with my wife which unfortunately gained media attention. The embarrassment my deliberate uncouth and unthoughtful false claim purposely made to damage your reputation is highly regretted as the claim was just a mere figment of my imagination.
“I wish to tender my profuse apology for the deliberate false, unfounded claims, and venomous actions against you. I state unequivocally that hold you in high esteem and deeply regret any form of embarrassment, pains, ill-feelings, likely loss of political opportunities, loss of respect and aspersions, to your hard earned reputation that may have been occasioned as a result of myfalse comments, and disparaging actions against you.
“I wish to state without any restraint that I hold you in high esteem as e
former distinguished colleague and friend, I intensely regret all the pains, wounds and embarrassment my false claims and malicious actions
may have caused you and your entire family.
Finally, I sincerely regret the financial and material loss you may have incurred due to my reckless and unwarranted actions.
