Three major opposition parties—the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and African Democratic Congress (ADC)—are not featured on the ballot papers for Saturday’s Kano State House of Assembly by-election.

According to Arise News, the ballot issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lists nine political parties, excluding the PDP, NNPP, and ADC.

The by-election is being held to fill two vacant seats in the state assembly following the deaths of two lawmakers last year. Both legislators were members of the NNPP before their passing.

Meanwhile, the exercise has reportedly witnessed low voter turnout across several polling units in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, despite the early deployment of INEC officials.

As of mid-morning, many polling centres had only a few voters present, with electoral officers seated and awaiting more participants. Security operatives were visibly deployed across the area to maintain order and ensure the safety of voters and election officials.

INEC officials were observed with election materials properly arranged, patiently waiting for more constituents to arrive and cast their ballots.
