Following the directive from President Bola Tinubu for Mr Kayode Egbetokun to resign, Tunji Disu has been appointed as the new Inspector-General of Police.

Born on April 13, 1966, Disu is a seasoned police officer with decades of experience in intelligence, investigations and command leadership across key states in the country.

Before his elevation, he served as Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. He had earlier held the same position in Rivers State before being redeployed to Abuja by the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Disu also previously headed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force, a strategic unit responsible for tackling high-profile crimes and complex security cases nationwide. The position was once held by Abba Kyari. In addition, he served as Principal Staff Officer to Egbetokun during his time as Acting Inspector-General.

A member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Disu is widely regarded as an officer with strong operational and administrative credentials.

Academically, he holds a degree in English Education from Lagos State University. He also earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Ondo State, and another master’s degree in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University.

With his nomination now awaiting Senate confirmation, Disu is expected to bring his wealth of field experience and academic background to bear in leading the Nigeria Police Force at a critical time for national security.
