The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has been awarded a prestigious Fellowship by the Energy Institute in the United Kingdom.
The honour, regarded as one of the highest professional recognitions in the global energy industry, was conferred on Ojulari during International Energy Week in London.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, NNPC Limited described the Fellowship as a significant milestone in the company’s ongoing efforts to reposition itself within the global energy landscape.
The company noted that the recognition is expected to further boost investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The Fellowship is reserved for senior energy professionals who have made sustained and high-impact contributions to the advancement of the industry.
Presenting the award, the President of the Energy Institute, Andy Brown, commended Ojulari for what he described as transformative leadership at the helm of Nigeria’s national energy company.
According to Brown, the award acknowledges Ojulari’s role in redefining NNPC Limited’s strategic direction, strengthening corporate governance, improving operational discipline, and embedding a performance-driven culture aimed at long-term profitability and value creation.
Under his leadership, the company has pursued investor-focused reforms, improved project execution, and expanded global partnerships, the moves seen as critical to restoring confidence in Nigeria’s energy sector.
NNPC stated that beyond the personal achievement, the Fellowship represents strong institutional validation of its ongoing transformation into a commercially driven, transparent, and globally competitive energy firm. The company added that the recognition reflects growing international confidence in its reform agenda and alignment with global best practices in governance, sustainability, and energy transition management.
Being recognised at International Energy Week, a global forum that brings together policymakers, industry executives, financiers, regulators, and technology leaders places NNPC’s leadership at the centre of key discussions on energy security, transition strategies, capital mobilisation, and sustainable development.
The honour comes at a time when the Federal Government is intensifying reforms to boost oil production, expand gas utilisation, and strengthen NNPC Limited’s commercial viability to enhance government revenue.
Since the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, NNPC Limited has introduced corporate governance reforms, restructured operations, and forged strategic partnerships with international investors to improve efficiency and transparency.
The company maintained that the Fellowship underscores its growing reputation as a credible, reform-oriented, and investment-ready energy enterprise, reinforcing its role in driving Africa’s energy security and transition ambitions.
NNPC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering sustainable value, strengthening Nigeria’s energy security, and positioning itself as a trusted global energy partner under Ojulari’s leadership.
