The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday declared its support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general elections, as it also received five members of the National Assembly who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The endorsement motion was formally moved by former Secretary to the State Government, Sola Akinwumi, who chairs the Osun APC Elders’ Forum, and seconded by Chief Shuaib Oyedokun.

Presiding over the gathering, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, highlighted what he described as major strides recorded under Tinubu’s leadership. According to him, Nigeria’s foreign reserves have improved steadily, while states and local governments are now receiving higher allocations to drive development projects.

Basiru also reiterated the party’s resolve to win the August 8 governorship election in Osun, urging residents to back Tinubu’s re-election and assuring the defecting lawmakers of full cooperation within the party.

Moving the motion, Akinwumi praised the President’s performance, stating that Tinubu “has done so well” and deserves another term to consolidate ongoing reforms. Oyedokun, while seconding the motion, called on Osun voters to support Tinubu in 2027 to enable him to continue what he termed far-reaching developmental programmes nationwide.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, outlined several achievements of the current administration. He cited improved foreign exchange stability, a significant reduction in fuel importation due to strengthened local refining capacity, and over $50 billion in fresh investment commitments.

Oyetola also pointed to the increase in the national minimum wage to ₦70,000, access to higher education loans by more than 200,000 students, and financial support schemes for nano businesses and vulnerable households. He added that federal allocations to states have risen, local government autonomy has been reinforced, and infrastructure projects such as the Ibadan–Oshogbo road are ongoing. Security operations, he said, have equally intensified across the country.

Describing these efforts as “measurable achievements,” Oyetola said the Renewed Hope Agenda is laying a solid foundation for national progress, adding that the APC is confident of reclaiming Osun State and restoring people-oriented governance.

The party’s governorship candidate in the state, Bola Oyebamiji, described Tinubu’s leadership as bold and reform-driven. He credited the administration with helping states overcome debt burdens and strengthening fiscal discipline.

Calling for unity among party members ahead of the August poll, Oyebamiji urged leaders, youths, women, and grassroots mobilisers to work together to return Osun to what he described as a path of growth, accountability, and inclusive development.

He also commended the defecting lawmakers for joining the APC, saying their decision signals growing momentum for the party.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Francis Fadahunsi assured party faithful of their commitment to future electoral victories. Other lawmakers who joined the APC include Olubiyi Fadeyi, Wole Oke, Sanya Ominrin, and Abimbola Ajilesoro.

The five federal lawmakers, who were originally elected on the PDP platform, cited irreconcilable differences within their former party as the reason for their defection to the APC.
