The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, on Saturday held a management meeting in Osogbo to discuss key issues affecting youth development and security in the state.
At the meeting, the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, reaffirmed the Council’s unity and commitment to advancing youth welfare despite challenges. He described the gathering as the highest level of youth stakeholder engagement in any state of Nigeria.
“This is the management meeting, and the decision made here supercedes that of the executive. Some issues in Osun State, particularly with the council, affect the youths of Osun. That is why we all came together to resolve them,” he said.
The Chairman also called on the Head of Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs) to mobilize members at all levels in support of the Council’s collective goals. He acknowledged a memo from the Commissioner for Youth regarding the renovation of the Youth House, stressing that cooperation among youths would ensure the success of the project.
The council deliberated extensively on security and announced the establishment of an Osun Youth Security Situation Room to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force.
“The situation room will serve as a report room for security issues within the state,” Oluwasegun said. A committee of uniform organisations was also set up to oversee youth security and ensure cooperation with the police.
Speaking on prolonged shutdown of Amotekun offices, the council called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun to protect lives and property by reopening the sealed offices of the corpa.
The NYCN also charged the state government to provide necessary training for operatives in order to avoid clashes with the residents.
Other decisions included mobilizing grassroots members in support of the Council’s goals, continuing efforts to acquire a youth bus, and plans for an Iftar gathering with the Governor during the 2026 Ramadan period.
The Financial Secretary presented the council’s financial report, giving an account of its financial standing. The communiqué also passed a vote of confidence on the state government and the NYCN state executive, reflecting members’ satisfaction with current leadership and governance.
Oluwasegun clarified that previous misunderstandings between the council and the state government had been resolved internally.
“We have also laid emphasis on the fact that there is no issues between the state government and the council. The issue that happened in the month of January has been resolved completely internally because we have held meetings with the Chief of Staff with Governor Alhaji Kareem Akinleye and he has resolved the issue with wisdom,” he said.
Oluwasegun said the council passed a vote of confidence on the Governor, the Commissioner for Youth, and the state government.
“We are okay with the way they are dealing with us, and we want them to do more for us. We appreciate them and say God bless them,” he added.
