The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two individuals suspected of transnational drug trafficking and recovered 197 sachets of Tramadol during a border patrol operation.
The development was announced in a statement issued Wednesday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.
According to the statement, the Command, “in its ongoing fight against drug trafficking and trans-border crimes… recorded a significant breakthrough with the arrest of two suspects in possession of One Hundred and Ninety-Seven (197) sachets of Tramadol.”
The suspects were identified as Muhammad Mustapha, 32, from Dorayi in Kano State, and Muhammad Sanusi, 48, from Garoua in the Republic of Cameroon.
They were “intercepted by operatives of the Border Patrol Fufore Unit, during an operation,” the statement said.
Preliminary findings indicated that the drugs were transported from a South-Eastern state and routed through Adamawa State for onward smuggling into Cameroon.
The Command stated that investigation “reveals that the illicit substances were transported from a South-Eastern state and were being conveyed through Adamawa State with the intention of smuggling them into the Republic of Cameroon before they were intercepted.”
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, “commended the personnel of the Border Patrol Unit for their vigilance and Professionalism,” and directed “the Command CP’s Monitoring Unit to take over the case for diligent investigation and further necessary action.”
The Command reiterated that it “remains resolute in its commitment to ridding the state of drug-related and illicit crimes.”
Meanwhile, PUNCH Online had reported in December 2025 that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency recorded major successes in its anti-narcotics operations in Adamawa State.
The NDLEA Commander in the state, Mr Aliyu Abubakar, disclosed, “In the series of coordinated intelligence-driven operations across the state, including the Airport, we have recorded landmark success, dismantling drug joints and intercepting deadly consignments.
“We seized 353kg of cannabis sativa, 983 kg of Tramadol and 60.500 kg of other opioids,” he said.
Abubakar also stated that the agency confiscated two vehicles connected to alleged drug-related offences.
According to him, the command secured six convictions, has 53 cases pending in court, and counselled and rehabilitated 39 individuals arrested for drug abuse.
