The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of six worshippers from a Celestial Church located along the Uso/Owo Expressway in Owo Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, stating that the incident occurred in the early hours of February 25 at about 12:50 a.m.
According to the police, the attackers stormed the church premises and took the worshippers to an undisclosed location.
Jimoh said, “Upon receiving the report, the operatives of the command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, immediately mobilised to the scene and commenced coordinated rescue operations.
“As a result of sustained joint efforts, one of the kidnapped victims has been successfully rescued.
“Additionally, one suspected informant linked to the incident has been arrested and is currently assisting with ongoing investigations.
“Security operations are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the apprehension of all perpetrators involved,” he said.
The police spokesperson urged residents of the area to remain calm and vigilant, while cooperating with security agencies by providing useful and credible information to aid ongoing rescue efforts.
Security agencies have intensified operations in and around the community as efforts continue to secure the release of the remaining abducted worshippers.
