The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 15 suspects and recovered a firearm during a raid on identified criminal hideouts in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Command’s spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said operatives of the Crack Tactical Squad carried out the operation on February 16 following credible intelligence.

He explained that the team stormed suspected criminal hotspots at the Four Corner area of Ozalla Community in Nkanu West Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of nine males and six females.

According to him, two polythene bags containing substances suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspects.

He added that a further search of the area led to the discovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge.

Ndukwe said the suspects are currently undergoing screening, noting that those found not culpable would be released, while those found wanting would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The spokesman disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Mamman Giwa, has directed supervising officers in charge of operations and investigations to sustain proactive measures aimed at combating crime.

He added that the commissioner also ordered the identification and dismantling of criminal hideouts, as well as the arrest and prosecution of offenders.

Ndukwe urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information to enhance security efforts.
