The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has partnered with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health to strengthen efforts aimed at improving the wellbeing of women across Nigeria.
This development was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, Dr Adanna Steinacker, during a meeting with women leaders, representatives of women-focused organisations, and NGOs in Abuja on Tuesday.
The meeting, organised by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and facilitated by the OSSAP-WH, focused on strategies to coordinate interventions addressing key challenges affecting women nationwide.
Steinacker explained that her office is adopting a comprehensive national strategy to ensure women’s health remains central to the country’s development agenda. She noted that the OSSAP-WH was inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on September 11, 2025, alongside its core initiative, RenewHER.
According to her, RenewHER — an acronym for Health, Equity and Reform — is designed to harmonise policies and programmes related to women’s health in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Women’s Affairs.
She outlined three major pillars of the initiative. The first is a digital media and advocacy hub aimed at bridging the knowledge gap surrounding women’s and girls’ health.
“There is limited awareness about available government health services and how to access them,” she said. “By leveraging digital platforms, we aim to share accurate, evidence-based information that improves health literacy across the population.”
The second pillar involves region-specific campaigns developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health to address priority health concerns in different geopolitical zones.
The third focuses on building strong networks through coalitions, symposia, and national summits to foster collaboration and drive sustainable improvements in women’s health.
Steinacker stressed that the Federal Ministry of Health is committed to dismantling institutional silos and promoting a unified, national approach to advancing women’s healthcare.
Also speaking, Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the Health Services and Environment Secretariat, affirmed her office’s commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance the health and wellbeing of women across the country.
