The House of Representatives Public Account Committee has suspended the 2026 budget consideration of Corporate Affairs Commission, Standard Organization of Nigeria, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and 18 other agencies of the Federal Government over refusal to remit account on the funds appropriated to them in previous budgets.
Announcing the sanction on Thursday, Chairman of the Committee, Bamidele Salam said the committee recommended the suspension following failure of the agencies to resolve the issues arising from the 2021 Auditor-General’s Annual Report.
Salam said the Committee is left with no choice than to write all relevant committees of the House to suspend consideration of 2026 budgets of the agencies pending when they render their accounts and honour invitation by the House.
“From the 2021 Auditor-General’s Annual Report, these agencies of the federal government have refused to render their accounts and since we are now at the budget session, we have no choice other than to suspend consideration of the budget,” Salam said.
“Relevant House Committees will be notified not to consider budgets from these agencies.”
