The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu will not step in again to resolve the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Wike made this known on Tuesday while speaking to journalists after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory. His comments came shortly after President Tinubu hosted both Wike and Fubara at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday night in a renewed effort to restore peace.
According to Wike, the President’s intervention was driven by his role as a father figure and a peacemaker, but he stressed that such involvement should not become a regular occurrence.
“Mr President has shown great kindness to the people of Rivers State. When there is a misunderstanding between the legislature and the governor, he naturally steps in as a father to make peace,” Wike said.
He noted that this was the second time President Tinubu had intervened in the crisis, expressing confidence that it would be the final one.
“By the grace of God, this should be the last time. I have advised the House of Assembly to obey Mr President, and I am certain they will do so. I believe we should not be hearing about this kind of issue again,” he added.
