Not fewer than 11 socio-political groups have declared support for the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the 2027 governorship ambition of former Nigerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Sarafa Tunji Ishola.
The groups made their position known during a stakeholders’ engagement held in Abeokuta on Tuesday, describing Tinubu as a courageous leader committed to repositioning Nigeria’s economy and Ishola as an experienced and service-driven politician.
Speaking at the event, the spokesperson for Good Governance Advocate, Olawale Durojaiye, said Ishola possesses the experience required to lead Ogun State effectively.
“We believe that Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola is not only God-fearing but also a well-grounded and experienced politician,” Durojaiye said.
“He no doubt possesses all that will make our dear state great, and that is why we are saying that he should be the next governor of the state.”
He also commended Tinubu’s leadership, noting that ongoing reforms and infrastructure development justify support for his second-term bid in 2027.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of Ogun Central Group, Akeem Ademolake, called on residents to rally behind both leaders.
“The truth is that we have a good leader with listening ears in Amb. Sarafa Tunji Ishola. He has the capacity to govern the state effectively,” he said.
Ademolake added that Tinubu’s economic policies were beginning to yield positive results, urging Nigerians to support his re-election to sustain the country’s progress.
An APC chieftain, Joju Fadairo, also threw his weight behind Ishola’s ambition, describing him as a politician with a deep commitment to the people.
Fadairo disclosed that he had informed prominent figures, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, about the governorship bid.
According to him, the increasing number of support groups reflects growing acceptance of Ishola across the state.
In his remarks, Ishola clarified that the gathering was not a formal declaration of his governorship ambition but a move to foster political unity.
“Let me be clear: we are not here for a governorship declaration. Declarations are not made in halls. When the time comes, it will be done appropriately,” he said.
He expressed concern over political divisions in the state, noting that hostile succession has hindered development.
“My concern is to stop hostile succession in Ogun State so that we can all come together for Ogun to realise its full potential,” Ishola stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the development of the state and backed Tinubu’s re-election, citing the administration’s economic reforms and growing investor confidence.
“With the courageous steps the President has taken, which are already impacting the country’s progress and economic recovery, supporting his return in 2027 will be in the best interest of Nigeria,” Ishola added.
