The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and leader of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has shed light on why the party in the state has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Oyetola had, on February 14, led party leaders and supporters to formally back Tinubu’s re-election at a large gathering held at Freedom Park in Osogbo. The event also doubled as a reception for five federal lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.

In a statement released on Sunday through his Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, Oyetola said the endorsement was driven by what he described as the President’s performance, boldness and clear direction for the country.

According to him, Tinubu took tough but necessary decisions at the beginning of his administration to steer Nigeria’s economy away from crisis. He pointed to key fiscal and monetary reforms aimed at stabilising the economy, attracting foreign investment and rebuilding confidence in the nation’s financial system.

The former Osun State governor said early signs show that the policies are beginning to yield results, citing improvements in revenue generation and transparency in public finance.

Oyetola also highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects across the country, including investments in roads, rail, ports and the energy sector. He noted that the administration’s push to expand critical sectors of the economy is creating fresh opportunities for employment and long-term growth.

On social welfare, the minister commended the government’s intervention programmes designed to ease the burden of economic reforms. He referenced initiatives such as student loans and support schemes for small and medium-sized enterprises, describing them as proof that the administration is pairing reforms with compassion.

He added that security remains high on the government’s agenda, with improved coordination among security agencies and increased backing for law enforcement to enhance national stability.

Describing Tinubu as an experienced administrator, Oyetola recalled his record as governor of Lagos State and his long-standing role in Nigeria’s progressive political movement. He said the President understands the complexities of governing a diverse country and has shown the resolve to make difficult decisions in the national interest.

The APC leader stressed that continuity is vital at this stage of Nigeria’s development, arguing that a second term would enable Tinubu to consolidate ongoing reforms, complete major infrastructure projects and fully stabilise the economy.

“President Tinubu has demonstrated courage, capacity and commitment to reposition Nigeria. What he needs now is time to finish what he has started,” Oyetola said, assuring that Osun APC members are united in support of the President’s re-election.

He also expressed optimism that the APC’s governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, would emerge victorious in the Osun governorship election slated for August 15, 2026.
