A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki has declared that endorsing President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 general elections would be “immoral and unjust.”

The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, made this known on Thursday during an appearance on The Morning Show on Arise Television. He argued that it would be inappropriate for a major opposition party like the PDP to support the presidential bid of a candidate from the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to him, such a move would undermine the party’s role as a credible opposition. He, however, expressed optimism that the party’s ongoing reconciliation efforts would be driven by reason rather than emotions.

Ememobong added that the Turaki-led bloc would ensure that any peace process strengthens the PDP rather than reducing it to a subordinate position.

Meanwhile, the party’s internal crisis appears to be easing, as factions loyal to Turaki and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, have resumed reconciliation talks ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29–30, 2026.

Turaki, whose faction enjoys the backing of several PDP governors, confirmed that fresh discussions aimed at uniting aggrieved members began earlier in the week and were already yielding positive outcomes.

Speaking in Abuja, he noted that stakeholders were mindful of the implications of the crisis, especially in relation to timelines set by the Electoral Act, and urged all parties to act in the interest of unity.

He expressed confidence that the rift, including differences with the Wike-led camp, would be resolved. Turaki also pledged to withdraw all pending court cases once reconciliation is achieved.

On the issue of compromise, he said the faction was willing to make significant concessions to restore peace within the party.

He added that key issues, including participation at the upcoming convention, would be discussed by stakeholders, who would ultimately decide the way forward for the party.
