Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has revealed that the outcome of the Court of Appeal’s judgment on the leadership dispute within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will determine his next political move.

Speaking at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at the Government House in Gusau, Lawal linked his potential defection from the party to the court’s decision on the legitimacy of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s leadership and the validity of the party’s Ibadan convention.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Public Enlightenment, and Communication, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura, the meeting brought together stakeholders from all 14 local government areas of the state.

Kaura noted that the gathering was convened in line with guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, which require political parties to complete their congresses at least 300 days before the polls.

He explained, “The guidelines indicate that by April or May, all party congresses must be concluded. There are litigations surrounding the PDP at the national level. If we remain without exploring options, we may face uncertainty, and others may take the credit.”

Kaura added that opinions among party members are divided if the judgment does not favor them, with some favoring the APC, others the ADC, and a few advocating the formation of a new party.

Governor Lawal stressed the need for clarity on the PDP’s leadership structure, noting that the Appeal Court’s ruling would play a decisive role in shaping his political direction.
