Crisis has erupted in Ede as members of the Accord Party and All Progressives Congress clashed over planned by the Chairman of Ede North elected on the platform of APC, Adeyemi Elliot to flag off reconstruction of a shopping complex.
InsightMedia gathered that the complex, located at Elerin area of Ede, was demolished to pave way for the dualisation of Ede-Ido-Osun road.
Information within the town since Wednesday evening has it that the APC members have concluded plans to hold a ceremonial flag-off today.
However, tension has been high on the town following the plan to reconstruct the shopping complex which is said to be a property of Ede North local government.
The issues
Findings by InsightMedia revealed that the complex was demolished as one of the affected buildings in the ongoing construction of a dual carriage by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
However, sometimes in February, some members of the Accord Party allegedly in collaboration with Federation of Ede Youth Development Association (FEYDA) attempted to commence reconstruction of the complex but were stopped by the APC led council officials.
“In fact, we have put blocks there in January before they stop us. Now they want to do it,” a protesting Accord member said.
How police intervention failed
As the tension was increasing in the early hours of Thursday, InsightMedia gathered that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan invited all the parties to his office in Osogbo for a peace meeting.
However, the meeting failed to produce an amicable resolution as the the two parties later stormed the venue of the flag-off.
While the APC were attempting to continue the flag-off, the Accord Party members insisted that the project should be suspended, leading to firing of teargas by the police officers present.
Timi of Ede intervenes
Shortly after the crisis, the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal reportedly invited the two camps, where he ordered that the project should be halted immediately “peace to reign”.
