Captain Reece James has committed his long-term future to Chelsea FC after signing a new six-year contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2032.

The 26-year-old defender, who joined the club’s academy at the age of six, will now spend the prime years of his career in West London, reinforcing his role as a central figure in Chelsea’s long-term plans.

The new deal extends James’ previous contract, which was due to run until 2028. Reports indicate that the extension also aligns his wages with the incentive-based salary structure introduced by the club’s current ownership.

James became Chelsea captain in 2023 following the departure of César Azpilicueta, and his renewed commitment is seen as a major boost for the club’s leadership both on and off the pitch.

Negotiations for the new agreement were reportedly completed quickly, reflecting the strong connection between the player and the club he has supported since childhood.

Apart from a loan spell at Wigan Athletic FC during the 2018–19 season, James has spent his entire professional career at Chelsea.

So far, he has made 225 appearances for the Blues, scoring 16 goals and providing 31 assists, while also emerging as one of the team’s most influential leaders.

On the international stage, James is widely regarded as a leading option at right-back for England national football team under manager Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Although injuries have occasionally disrupted his career, the defender has still managed 35 appearances in all competitions this season.

During his time at Chelsea, James has already won several major honours, including the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup.

Chelsea currently sit fifth in the Premier League table and will rely on their captain when they host Newcastle United FC this weekend in a crucial match for their Champions League qualification hopes.

The Blues will then turn their attention to Europe, where they face Paris Saint‑Germain FC in the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie.

Chelsea suffered a heavy 5–2 defeat in the first leg and will need an inspired performance from James and his teammates if they hope to complete a dramatic comeback and reach the quarter-finals.
