Mallam Aminu Gwarzo, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, has tenders his resignation from his position as the House of Assembly intensifies plots to impeach him.

It was gathered that Gwarzo turned in his resignation on Friday morning.

His spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, confirmed the development to our correspondent, stating that the resignation had been formally communicated.

“Yes, it is true. The deputy governor has resigned from his position,” he said, declining to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the decision.

Although no official reason has been given for the resignation, the development comes amid recent tensions between the deputy governor and the Kano State House of Assembly.

The Assembly had, in recent days, levelled a series of allegations against Gwarzo, including claims of misconduct following his refusal to join the All Progressives Congress with the Governor, Abba Yusuf.

Yusuf joined the APC on January 26, a move that triggered significant shifts within the state’s political and administrative structures.

In the wake of the defection, the governor embarked on a series of changes within the government, including the removal of the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa.

Similarly, the governor recently relieved the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Sagagi, of his appointment, citing ongoing efforts to restructure government operations for improved service delivery.

Gwarzo’s resignation is expected to trigger constitutional processes regarding the appointment of a new deputy governor, subject to the approval of the Kano State House of Assembly.
