The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it will support Accord Party to secure the re-election of Governor Ademola Jackson Adeleke in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, as six members of the House of Representatives formally joined the Accord Party.

The development was announced on Monday at an enlarged stakeholders’ meeting held at the PDP State Secretariat, Biket Junction, Osogbo.

This is as six House of Representatives members defected to the Accord Party to back the governor’s second-term bid.

The lawmakers are Bamidele Salam, Clement Olohunwa Lanre Oladebo, Lukman Kayode Mudasiru, Morufu Adebayo and Soji Adetunji.

Speaking at the gathering, Osun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, said the decision followed statewide consultations with leaders and stakeholders across the three senatorial districts.

He explained that due to the national leadership crisis which prevented the PDP from fielding a candidate, the state chapter resolved to adopt Governor Adeleke and mobilise its entire structure in support of his candidacy under the Accord platform.

“We do not have a candidate in the August 15 governorship election, and we cannot remain passive. We voted for Ademola Adeleke in 2022, and he remains our son. Therefore, all our structures, from polling units to the state executives have been directed to work for his victory,” Bisi said.

Bisi dismissed suggestions of internal division within the Osun PDP, insisting that the party’s structure in Osun remains intact.

“There is no division in PDP in Osun State. We have not collapsed our party. What we have done is a strategic political alignment to defend progress and ensure continuity,” he said.

Also speaking, Osun State Accord Party Chairman, Victor Akande, commended the PDP leadership for what he described as a bold and progressive decision.

“The transformation Governor Adeleke has brought to Osun is visible in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and empowerment. This alliance will further consolidate these good deeds and ensure that the good work continues,” Akande stated.

Accepting the support, Adeleke appreciated the leadership of the PDP, promising to do more for the people.

Present at the declaration programme on Monday include the Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, members of the National and State Assemblies, PDP leaders, among others.
