The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of four persons along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan, the state capital.

Ayanlade said coordinated search and rescue operations were ongoing to secure the safe release of the victims.

“Four persons have been confirmed abducted along the Igbeti–Kishi Road,” the statement read.

He explained that upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police directed divisional heads to mobilise operational resources to track down the perpetrators.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officers of Kishi and Igbeti Divisions, supported by other tactical teams, to deploy all necessary operational assets to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the prompt arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators,” Ayanlade said.

According to him, security operatives have intensified intelligence gathering and are combing surrounding areas as part of efforts to locate the kidnappers and rescue the victims.

“Coordinated search and rescue efforts are currently underway, with security operatives combing the surrounding areas and intensifying intelligence gathering to track down the suspects,” he added.

The police spokesperson urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid the ongoing operation.

Meanwhile, the command recently recorded success in countering criminal activities in the state.

According to reports, security operatives foiled a bandit attack at Elebe Village in Aleniboro, located in Atisbo Local Government Area, where two suspected gang members were neutralised following a tip-off from a resident about armed men planning an attack.

Similarly, the command thwarted a kidnap attempt at Olorunda Village in Ojongbodu, Oyo West Local Government Area, rescuing the victim, Haruna Lawal, who sustained a head injury during the incident.
