The Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has announced a financial support package for soldiers affected by a recent terrorist attack in the state.

During a visit to injured officers at the Intensive Care Unit of Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, the governor pledged N20 million to each of the families of the three soldiers killed, and N5 million each to six injured officers receiving treatment.

Speaking during the visit in Ilorin, AbdulRazaq praised the bravery of the fallen soldiers, noting that they paid the ultimate price while defending their country.

“Several of the terrorists were neutralised during the fierce exchange, but sadly, we lost three gallant soldiers,” he said.

The governor also commended the quality of medical care provided at the hospital, describing it as one of the key achievements of his administration. He expressed appreciation to security personnel for their continued sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property.

The attack, which occurred in Kemanji community in Kaiama Local Government Area, reportedly happened in the early hours of Monday when suspected terrorists stormed a military camp.

According to the governor, the soldiers successfully repelled the attackers, preventing them from invading the community or carrying out kidnappings, though three personnel lost their lives in the process.

Residents said the assault began around 3:00 a.m. with the detonation of an explosive device, followed by heavy gunfire. The situation forced many villagers to flee as security operatives, alongside local vigilantes, engaged the attackers in a gun battle that lasted for hours.

Sources within the community revealed that several of the attackers were also killed during the exchange, while the injured soldiers were later rushed to Ilorin for medical attention.

Eyewitnesses described the incident as chaotic, adding that the attackers reportedly made away with some military patrol vehicles and motorcycles before retreating.

In the aftermath of the attack, community leaders and stakeholders have called for urgent measures to address the rising security challenges in the area, urging authorities to strengthen efforts to protect lives and property.

Governor AbdulRazaq, however, assured residents that his administration would continue to support the armed forces and the families of fallen heroes, stressing that their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
