No fewer than 102 councillors from the nine local government areas in Ogun East Senatorial District have endorsed the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the reported 2027 senatorial ambition of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday during a gathering held in Ijebu Ode, following a motion moved by the Chairman of the Ogun State Councillors’ Forum, Hon. Akindele Faseyi, and seconded by Babalola Emmanuel.
The councillors attributed their support to what they described as Abiodun’s “unmatched developmental strides” and “qualitative leadership,” particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, economic development, and security.
Faseyi said the governor’s “Building Our Future Together” agenda has had a significant positive impact across Ogun East, adding that his experience makes him well-suited for national legislative responsibilities.
“We believe that a leader of his calibre should continue to serve at the federal level in order to attract more dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.
He cited projects such as the state airport, noting that it would boost economic activities, especially in the Iperu and Ilishan axis, and across the state.
The councillors also pledged to mobilise grassroots support for Abiodun should he emerge as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
Also speaking, the member representing Ijebu Federal Constituency, Femi Ogunbanwo, backed the endorsement, describing Abiodun as a committed democrat with a strong governance record.
“Our amiable governor deserves to serve in the Senate after completing his tenure as governor. His achievements are unparalleled,” Ogunbanwo said.
The lawmakers also unanimously endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid, expressing confidence in his leadership and ongoing economic reforms.
However, Governor Abiodun has yet to officially declare his intention to contest for the Ogun East senatorial seat, currently held by Gbenga Daniel.
