Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind Governor Dapo Abiodun as their consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The endorsement was announced on Monday during a high-level meeting held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, which drew party leaders and grassroots representatives from across the district.

The gathering, attended by members of the Governor’s Advisory Council, current and former lawmakers, local government chairmen, councillors, and youth and women leaders, signaled a unified stance within the district in support of the governor’s senatorial ambition.

Speaking at the event, former Ogun East senator, Lekan Mustapha, said the decision was based on the collective belief in Abiodun’s competence and leadership capacity to represent the district effectively at the National Assembly.

He added that party leaders would formally convey the endorsement to the governor and even move to procure his nomination forms ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We will put a team together to deliver this message to our governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha said.

Also lending his voice, the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, described the endorsement as both historic and unanimous, noting that it reflects the confidence of party members in the governor’s track record and leadership style.

Similarly, a member of the House of Representatives, Femi Ogunbanwo, praised Abiodun’s administration for promoting peace and development across Ogun State, expressing optimism that he would attract more dividends of democracy to Ogun East if elected to the Senate.

Chairman of Sagamu Local Government, Afolabi Odulate, also commended the governor’s performance and urged him to accept the call to contest.

The meeting reportedly had in attendance all 103 councillors from the nine local government areas in Ogun East, alongside key party figures and grassroots mobilisers.

Notably, the endorsement appears to sideline former governor Gbenga Daniel, who is also a prominent political figure from the district.

Other notable attendees included Senator Gbenga Kaka, Ogun East APC Chairman Adedoyin Adeleke, and several party elders and stakeholders.
