Arsenal moved a step closer to winning the Premier League title after a dramatic 1-0 victory over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Belgian forward Leandro Trossard scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute to hand Arsenal a crucial win in the tense title race against Manchester City.

The Gunners appeared set to comfortably see out the victory before West Ham thought they had snatched a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser through Callum Wilson.

However, after a lengthy VAR review, the goal was ruled out for a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya during the buildup, sparking relief among Arsenal players and supporters.

The result leaves Arsenal five points clear at the top of the table as manager Mikel Arteta edges closer to delivering the club’s first league title in 22 years.

The victory was especially important given Arsenal’s recent struggles in the title race and the pressure coming from defending champions Manchester City.

Earlier, City manager Pep Guardiola had jokingly urged West Ham to do Arsenal no favours after his side’s 3-0 victory over Brentford kept the pressure on the league leaders.

Despite dominating previous visits to the London Stadium, Arsenal found Sunday’s encounter far more difficult as West Ham battled desperately to avoid relegation.

With only two matches remaining, Arsenal now face already-relegated Burnley before ending the season away to Crystal Palace.

For West Ham, the defeat deepened their relegation worries. The Hammers remain stuck in the drop zone and are now four points behind safety with only two games left to play.
