Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially withdrawn from the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State.
Fubara announced his decision in a statement issued on Wednesday night, explaining that his withdrawal was motivated by the desire to promote peace, unity and stability in the state.
Fubara stated that stepping aside from the contest should not be interpreted as an act of weakness, fear or surrender, but rather as a personal sacrifice made in the interest of the people of Rivers State.
According to him, the decision was taken out of conviction and a commitment to ensuring that the state moves forward peacefully.
“Let it be clearly understood that I stepped aside from participating in the upcoming Rivers State governorship election not out of weakness, fear or surrender, but out of conviction and sacrifice so that Rivers State may move forward in peace and unity,” the governor stated.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of the state until the completion of his current tenure.
The development is expected to further reshape the political landscape in Rivers State ahead of the next governorship election.
