Chelsea F.C. were left heartbroken at Wembley on Saturday as Manchester City F.C. secured a narrow 1-0 victory to lift the 2026 FA Cup.
The decisive moment came in the 72nd minute when Antoine Semenyo produced a moment of brilliance to hand City the trophy. The winger, who joined from AFC Bournemouth in January, latched onto a low cross from Erling Haaland and cleverly flicked the ball past Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez with the back of his heel.
The goal proved enough to separate both sides in a tightly contested final played before more than 83,000 fans at Wembley Stadium. Semenyo’s strike marked his 10th goal for City since his arrival and capped another standout display for the in-form forward.
Chelsea had their chances to get back into the game, with Moisés Caicedo seeing a goal-bound header cleared off the line by Rodri, while Enzo Fernández came close with an effort that landed on the roof of the net. Despite their efforts, the Blues failed to find the breakthrough, extending their run to five consecutive Wembley finals without scoring.
The victory means City have now added the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup they won earlier in March, completing a domestic cup double this season. It also marks a major milestone for manager Pep Guardiola, who claimed his 20th major trophy since taking charge of the club.
For Chelsea, the defeat adds to an already disappointing campaign. Missing out on the FA Cup also means they lose a potential route into European competition next season, leaving their hopes of continental football hanging on their final Premier League matches.
