The Delta State Government has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has died, describing the claim as false and unfounded.
The clarification was issued on Wednesday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Ossai Ovie Success, who said he verified the report with the former governor’s family.
In a post on his X account titled, “Former Governor Uduaghan Is Alive – Death Rumour False,” Ossai disclosed that he spoke directly with Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who confirmed that her father is alive and in good health.
“I have just seen reports circulating online claiming that the former Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, is dead. Some people have been reaching out to me asking if the news is real,” Ossai stated.
“I immediately reached out to his family to confirm. I spoke directly with his daughter, Orode Uduaghan, on the phone, and she confirmed that the news is false. Dr Uduaghan is alive.”
The governor’s aide condemned the spread of unverified information, expressing concern over the emotional impact such rumours could have on family members, friends and supporters.
He described the circulation of false reports about a person’s death as irresponsible and harmful.
“Spreading fake news about someone’s death is cruel, irresponsible, and causes unnecessary pain to the family and millions of Deltans who hold him in high regard,” he said.
Ossai urged members of the public to disregard the rumour and avoid sharing information that has not been properly verified.
“Let us show respect for life and for our leaders. Dr Uduaghan is fine and not dead,” he added.
The state government reiterated that the former governor is alive and called on the public to rely on credible sources before sharing sensitive information online.
