The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the state police command to investigate an alleged assassination attempt reportedly disclosed by the Ataoja of Osogboland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, Larooye II.
The opposition party said a thorough investigation had become necessary to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The call followed remarks reportedly made by the monarch during an event held in Osogbo on Saturday, where Governor Ademola Adeleke was adopted for re-election by spare parts traders at the Ajegunle area of the state capital. According to reports cited by the APC, the monarch claimed he narrowly escaped an attack after suspected hoodlums allegedly opened fire into his palace.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC described the allegation as serious and one that should not be ignored, stressing that such an incident could negatively affect the image of Osun State.
The party questioned whether the alleged attack had been officially reported to the police and, if so, why details of the incident had not been made public.
The APC also raised questions over reports that some palace residents were injured during the incident, urging that information relating to the affected individuals, including where they received treatment, should be made available to aid investigation.
According to the statement, members of the public with useful information regarding the alleged attack should cooperate with security agencies.
The party further urged the police to act swiftly in order to address public concerns and clarify issues surrounding the allegation.
It also questioned why such an allegation had not attracted significant attention in both traditional and social media circles and encouraged media organisations operating in the state to seek further details.
The APC maintained that it rejects political violence and stated that its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, remains confident of victory in the forthcoming August 15, 2026 governorship election through what it described as popular support.
