The Osun State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into a series of shooting incidents that left several people injured in parts of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, had ordered an immediate investigation into the attacks and directed security operatives to track down those responsible.
According to the statement, the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), alongside its Operations and Intelligence Departments, has been deployed to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incidents and ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
The police expressed concern over the shootings, which occurred in different locations across the state on Tuesday, resulting in injuries to a number of residents.
The Command, however, assured the public that normalcy had been restored to the affected areas, while additional security measures had been put in place to prevent a recurrence.
“Security has been reinforced in the affected areas, while intensive intelligence-led operations are ongoing to fish out the perpetrators and their sponsors, regardless of their societal or political status,” the statement said.
The police further disclosed that officers promptly evacuated the injured victims to medical facilities, where they are currently receiving treatment and responding positively to medical care.
Commissioner Gotan urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding, while cooperating with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing investigations.
He assured members of the public that all information received would be treated with strict confidentiality.
The Command also reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that it would spare no effort in bringing those behind the attacks to justice.
The police warned individuals and groups against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in activities capable of disrupting public peace and security.
The latest development comes amid heightened political tension in parts of the state, with security agencies stepping up efforts to maintain law and order.
