The Osun State Police Command has directed political parties, candidates and their supporters to suspend all planned political gatherings, rallies, processions and campaigns in Oriade Local Government Area scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The directive was issued in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command.
According to the statement, the decision followed credible intelligence and rising security concerns in the area, which the Command said could threaten public peace if the events go ahead as planned.
The police explained that earlier efforts to engage political stakeholders and ensure peaceful conduct ended in a deadlock, adding that some parties were not cooperative during peace talks initiated by the Command.
It stated that the suspension is a preventive measure aimed at avoiding any breakdown of law and order and ensuring the safety of lives and property in Oriade and its environs.
“All political parties, candidates, supporters and members of the public are advised to take note and comply in the interest of peace and public safety,” the statement read.
The Command also noted that a planned peace meeting with concerned political actors could not hold, further necessitating the directive.
Reassuring residents, the police said it remains committed to maintaining peace and security across the state, urging citizens to cooperate with security agencies and remain law-abiding.
The Command added that the decision was taken purely in the interest of public safety and urged political actors to reschedule their activities to a later date when conditions are more favourable.
