Nollywood actress and African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate for Abia State, Doris Ogala, has sparked debate after confidently declaring that the people of the state have “no choice” but to accept her as their next governor.
Ogala made the statement during a TikTok Live session, a video of which has since gone viral on social media ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Expressing confidence in her ambition, the actress said her emergence as Abia’s next governor was divinely ordained.
“I, Doris Ogala, as your governor, you don’t have a choice. Doris will be your governor; you don’t have a choice. God has said it, so shall it be. It is very simple. Why don’t you get that?” she said during the live broadcast.
Her remarks have generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users describing the comments as a show of confidence, while others criticised what they viewed as an overconfident assertion ahead of the election.
Ogala recently emerged as the AAC’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election and has vowed to unseat the incumbent governor, Alex Otti.
Since declaring her ambition, she has promised to improve the welfare of Abia residents, create employment opportunities and implement policies aimed at driving economic growth across the state.
Before venturing into partisan politics, Ogala built a successful career in Nollywood before becoming actively involved in political advocacy under the AAC, participating in campaigns and protests on issues affecting the people of Abia.
Her political journey has not been without challenges. In June 2026, she was hospitalised after collapsing during a political consultation in Umuahia. She was admitted to the Federal Medical Centre, where she later visited and prayed with fellow patients from a wheelchair, an incident that also attracted widespread attention and mixed reactions on social media.
