Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr has opened up on the reason behind her recent disappearance from the public eye, revealing that she is recovering from a major surgery that turned out to be more complicated than initially expected.
The singer’s absence from social media over the past week had sparked concern among fans, with many wondering why the usually active “Rush” hitmaker had suddenly gone silent online.
After returning to social media on Wednesday, Ayra Starr broke her silence on Thursday, explaining that she had undergone surgery and was currently taking time off to focus on her recovery.
In a message shared on her Instagram Story, the award-winning singer apologised to her fans, popularly known as Mobstarrs, for her prolonged absence, assuring them that she was gradually getting better.
“Hey Mobstarrs, I’m sorry you’re not seeing as much of me as I would like. I had major surgery a few days ago. I was hoping it would be a quick recovery but it was more complicated than they expected.
“I just need a bit of rest and I’ll be back. Starrgirl is coming so soooon,” she wrote.
Although the 24-year-old did not disclose the nature of the surgery or the health condition that necessitated it, her statement has reassured fans who had been worried by her sudden withdrawal from social media and public activities.
Ayra Starr has enjoyed a remarkable rise in the global music industry since breaking through with her self-titled debut EP in 2021.
