Barely one week after the premiere of Big Brother Naija Season 11, the reality show has become the subject of intense debate on social media, with many viewers describing the opening week as one of the slowest in the show’s history.
The season, which kicked off last Sunday with 24 housemates competing for the record ₦160 million grand prize, has struggled to impress a section of fans who believe the contestants have failed to deliver the drama, rivalries and memorable moments that have traditionally defined the reality show.
Across X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms, disappointed viewers called on the organisers to inject fresh energy into the house, with some suggesting the introduction of new housemates to revive the competition.
Reacting to the first week, X user @heretodis described the season as underwhelming.
“It’s boring this year. Mediocre entertainment. It’s exhausting and underwhelming production. We want to see interesting personalities. It’s not Perfect Match or Love Island,” the user wrote.
Another viewer, @Ugo_only, urged Big Brother to shake up the competition.
“Biggie remove these housemates, they are all boring. Spice things up or bring new housemates,” the post read.
Sharing a similar opinion, @Nonye7463 wrote, “Please new housemates to shake things up, even if they’re fake,” while @akosus1252 simply posted, “The show is boring. Do something Biggie, bring in hot people.”
Some fans argued that the current housemates lacked the personalities needed to sustain viewers’ interest.
“Every day that passes reinforces that this season is terribly agonising to watch. Boring is an understatement. The housemates lack character and entertainment standards,” @TWEETORACLE wrote.
Another viewer, @barbara44899002, appealed to the show’s organisers to challenge the contestants more.
“The show is very boring. Bring in new housemates. These ones are not giving. Ebuka please drag them very well on Sunday,” the user said.
Others, however, blamed the structure of the programme rather than the contestants.
According to @DotiDoti_, moving the weekly wager presentation from Sunday to Monday could make the show more engaging.
“Wager brief on Sunday is what is causing the problem. It should come on Monday,” the user suggested.
Some viewers also expressed disappointment over the lack of romantic connections and exciting party moments, with @chinyere_o81105 joking that the current season had become a “sleeping pill.”
Despite the criticism, many fans defended the new housemates, insisting it was too early to judge the season after just one week.
@BukolaOfGod maintained that the contestants had already shown enough promise.
“The people saying this season is boring, I don’t think we’ve been watching the same Big Brother because me, I’ve been seeing everything I subscribed for,” the user wrote.
Another fan, @OppongRenelle, questioned why critics continued following the show despite repeatedly complaining.
“Why is the show boring? Yet you’re still watching every single day? Please pick a struggle. If it’s not for you, stop watching it. Let the rest of us enjoy the madness,” the post read.
Similarly, @gift9632996 expressed satisfaction with the new season, writing, “I like this season. Omo na better fun dem dey have.”
Not everyone supported calls for the introduction of fresh contestants. @teegross172296 argued that replacing the current housemates might not solve the problem.
“I don’t want new housemates because they might just end up being boring as well. We need people like Victory, Kuture, Rooboy and co. to spice up this season and save the show,” the user said.
The mixed reactions come just days after the reality show returned with 24 contestants, including Tram, Martins, Abi, Mercedes, Sheba, Araga, Goddessa and Cassi, all battling for the biggest cash prize in the history of the franchise.
As the competition enters its second week, viewers will be watching closely to see whether the housemates can raise the entertainment level or if the calls for a major shake-up will continue to dominate conversations online.
