The Forum of United Imams and Khatheeb in Osun State has appealed to the Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo and Delta, Alhaji Khamis Olatunde Badmus, for support to reposition the association and strengthen its activities towards the promotion of Islam across the state and beyond.
The appeal was made during a courtesy visit to Badmus in Osogbo, where the delegation was led by the Forum’s Deputy President, Sheikh Abdul Raheem Bushra.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum, Sheikh Bushra recalled that Badmus played a pivotal role in the establishment of the association nearly three decades ago by encouraging Islamic clerics across the state to unite under one umbrella.
He, however, noted that despite the association’s achievements over the years, several challenges had slowed its growth and limited its impact.
The Forum also called for greater recognition from the Osun State Government, stressing that the association deserves a more prominent role in matters affecting the Muslim community in the state.
The Islamic leaders further expressed their readiness to align with the vision and guidance of Asiwaju Badmus on issues relating to the future development and administration of Osun State.
Responding, Badmus expressed delight that the association he encouraged to establish many years ago had remained active despite the challenges it had faced.
He urged members of the Forum to remain united, describing unity as the key to achieving meaningful progress and earning the recognition they seek from both the government and society.
According to him, only a united body of Islamic clerics can effectively champion the interests of Muslims and contribute to the peace and development of Osun State.
“You are our Imams, with thousands of faithful standing behind you in every Jumat prayer. There is a need for you to remain united to advance the cause of Islam and protect the interests of Muslims,” Badmus said.
He also assured the delegation that he would continue to engage relevant stakeholders and do his best to ensure the Osun State Government supports the Forum in areas of genuine need.
The Forum of United Imams and Khatheeb in Osun State is made up of Imams who lead Jumat prayers in mosques across the state and serves as a platform for promoting unity and cooperation among Islamic clerics.
