Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has opened up about his enduring love for his wife, Jumobi, revealing that he handed over the first ₦100 million cheque he ever received to her as a gift.
The celebrated actor, whose career spans more than four decades and has earned him a reputation as one of Nollywood’s most respected and accomplished stars, made the revelation during an interview on The Morayo Show, which began trending on Wednesday.
RMD, 65, described himself as an “incurable romantic,” saying his expression of love has evolved over the years from traditional gifts to grand gestures that reflect his wife’s love language.
“I’m an incurable romantic. These days, it isn’t about flowers and chocolates anymore because ladies like money,” he said.
Recounting one of the most memorable moments in his career, the award-winning actor said he did not hesitate to give his wife the first ₦100 million cheque he earned.
“The first biggest cheque I ever received was for ₦100 million. When it was presented to me, I told my manager to give it to my wife. When she got it, she asked if I wanted her to keep it for the children. I told her no, that she should keep it for herself and do whatever she wanted with it,” RMD recalled.
According to him, he was certain that much of the money would eventually be used to support their family.
“The trick is that I know 90 per cent of the money will eventually end up being spent on the children. I like giving my wife the biggest things I have so she never has to ask for anything. All the big and beautiful things in the house are hers,” he added.
Widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s finest actors, RMD has enjoyed remarkable success on both television and the big screen, starring in numerous blockbuster films and earning multiple awards for his outstanding contributions to the Nigerian film industry. Beyond his acting career, he has also served in public office and remains one of the country’s most influential entertainment figures.
RMD married former television presenter Jumobi Mofe-Damijo in 2000, four years after the passing of his first wife, May Ellen Ezekiel. The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in December 2025 and have continued to be admired for their enduring relationship.
The Delta State-born actor has four children, two from his first marriage and two with Jumobi.
