The senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saliu Mustapha, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State.

Mustapha announced his resignation in a statement on Friday, saying his decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders, supporters, constituents and other well-meaning Kwarans.

The lawmaker said he did not take the decision lightly, noting that it was informed by recent developments within the APC in the state and his assessment of the party’s direction.

He said his decision was rooted in his longstanding belief that politics should be driven by the interests of the people, principles and a clear sense of purpose.

“As a politician, I have always believed that politics must be about people, principles and purpose,” Mustapha said.

He added that when the direction of a political platform no longer sufficiently aligns with those values and the aspirations of the people he represents, it becomes necessary to chart a new political course.

While announcing his departure, the senator expressed appreciation to the APC leadership, particularly President Bola Tinubu, for the relationships and experiences he gained during his time in the party.

“To the leadership of the APC ably led by H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, I express my deepest gratitude for the relationships and experiences I have been afforded over the years,” he said.

Mustapha, however, assured his constituents and supporters that his resignation from the APC would not affect his commitment to serving them.

He said although his political platform might change, his principles, purpose and dedication to the people of Kwara Central, Kwara State and Nigeria remained unchanged.

“To my constituents, supporters, political associates and stakeholders in Kwara State and beyond, I assure you that while my political platform may change, my principles, my purpose and my commitment to the people remain unchanged,” he said.

The senator did not disclose the political platform he intends to join or his next political move, but said he remained committed to serving the people of Kwara Central and the country at large.
