The Nigerian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of popular Yoruba actress Temitope Osoba, who died at the age of 40.

News of her passing surfaced on Wednesday after actor Alesh Sanni announced it in an emotional social media post, describing the late actress as a dear friend and colleague.

Expressing his grief, Sanni wrote, “Couldn’t sleep since last night; it’s well. Rest in peace, my dearest sister, Temitope Osoba. We had an amazing time and good memories together, till we meet again. I really don’t know what to say.”

His announcement triggered an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, fans and other members of the entertainment industry, who remembered Osoba for her talent, resilience and contributions to the Yoruba film sector.

As of the time of filing this report, neither her family nor management had released an official statement on the circumstances surrounding her death, while the cause of death remains unknown.

Osoba was one of the familiar faces in Yoruba Nollywood, building a career that spanned nearly two decades. She began acting in 2005 and rose to prominence after starring in the Yoruba movie Oogun Mi, produced by actress Dayo Amusa.

A graduate of Business Education from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ogun State, she featured in several notable productions, including Gucci Girls, Igboro Ti Daru, Omo Tee, Twinny Mi, Ile Owo and Omo Iya Kan. Beyond acting, she also ventured into movie production with her film Single Ladies.

Her death comes almost exactly one year after she made an emotional return to acting following her recovery from breast cancer.

In 2025, the actress revealed that she underwent surgery and radiation therapy after discovering a lump in her breast during a self-examination. She later announced she was cancer-free and expressed gratitude to colleagues, fans and well-wishers whose financial and emotional support helped her through the difficult period.

Announcing her return to the screen on August 4, 2025, Osoba described the experience as a turning point in her life.

She wrote, “Dear beloved fans, supporters and loved ones, I’m Temitope Osoba, and after my cancer experience, I’m excited to announce my reintroduction. This journey has been a turning point, leading to my rebranding, reshaping and rebuilding. I’m emerging stronger, more resilient and more passionate about sharing my story and inspiring others.”

Following her recovery, Osoba became an advocate for breast cancer awareness, using her platform to encourage early detection and offer hope to people battling the disease. She also highlighted the financial burden many actors face while seeking treatment for serious illnesses.

Her sudden death has come as a shock to many who celebrated her recovery and welcomed her return to the movie industry.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by her family in the coming days.
