A yet-to-be-identified man has proposed to his girlfriend at the Osun-Osogbo Festival, turning the cultural celebration into the setting for a memorable new chapter in their relationship.
The couple reportedly first met at the annual festival a year ago. Twelve months later, they returned to the same celebration, but this time, the man had a special question to ask.
According to a video shared by Motherland TV on Instagram, the man surprised his girlfriend with a marriage proposal during this year’s festival.
In the heartwarming video, the couple were seen in simple outfits as flowers were arranged on a traditional mat before the man went down on one knee and asked his girlfriend to marry him.
The woman also knelt during the emotional moment, as the intimate proposal attracted the attention of people around them.
Motherland TV described the moment as a beautiful expression of love, respect and Yoruba cultural values, particularly the concept of Ìwà Ọmọlúàbí, which emphasises good character, respect and proper conduct.
“They met at the Osun-Osogbo Festival last year. This year, they returned to the same sacred celebration and he proposed!” the platform said.
It added, “Beautiful, heartwarming, and unforgettable. This is more than a proposal; it is a love story coming full circle at Osun-Osogbo.”

The Osun-Osogbo Festival is one of Nigeria’s major cultural and religious celebrations and is centred around the Osun Sacred Grove, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The 2026 edition, themed “Preserving Heritage, Inspiring the Future,” ran from July 27 to August 7, attracting worshippers, tourists, cultural enthusiasts and visitors from within and outside Nigeria.
While the festival celebrates Yoruba culture, tradition and spirituality, this year’s celebration also provided an unforgettable personal moment for the couple whose relationship began at the event and has now progressed to a marriage proposal.
