The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji, says President Bola Tinubu lives a modest lifestyle and does not engage in extravagance.
Adedeji made the remarks on Sunday during an interview on Channels Television with Seun Okinbaloye. The conversation comes amid growing public debate over government spending and the lifestyles of political leaders, as many Nigerians grapple with rising living costs.
Responding to questions about the President’s movements and use of luxury vehicles, Adedeji said Tinubu often walks from his residence to his office and only uses a vehicle when heading to the airport.
“He goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport. I don’t know where you see the convoy,” he said.
The NRS boss also claimed the President eats only once a day and has not travelled outside Nigeria in the past three months.
“When you get there now, you will see him reviewing one document or the other. The president eats once in a day. How many parties have you seen him at in the last three years? Tell me where you have seen him, whether on holiday or anywhere?” Adedeji asked.
On the issue of Escalades allegedly attached to the President’s convoy, Adedeji pushed back, saying Tinubu could afford such vehicles.
“How much is an Escalade that the President of Nigeria cannot afford? Please don’t embarrass this country. Before he became president, what is he riding?” he queried.
He further challenged the idea of “living large,” asking: “What is living large? In the last months, he has not even left the shores of this country, trekking and working.”
The interview comes as Nigerians continue to scrutinize government expenditure and the conduct of public officials amid ongoing economic pressures.
